MCS certified solar installers

Solar panel installation you can trust
across the North East

Solar panels are a significant investment and the difference between a well designed system and a poorly designed one is thousands of pounds over its lifetime. A system designed around your actual energy usage, with the right number of panels, the right inverter and the right battery storage, will pay back significantly faster than one sized purely for the roof.

MCS certified solar installers are required by law to meet strict quality and safety standards. MCS certification is also a prerequisite for the Smart Export Guarantee, the government scheme that pays you for the excess electricity your panels generate and export back to the grid. Every installation we carry out is MCS certified and fully eligible for SEG payments.

We install solar panels, battery storage systems and EV charger integration across Newcastle, Gateshead, North Tyneside, South Tyneside and Northumberland including Gosforth, Jesmond, Whitley Bay, Ponteland, Darras Hall and the wider North East.

Battery storage

Solar battery storage across the North East

A solar battery stores the excess electricity your panels generate during the day so you can use it in the evening and overnight rather than exporting it back to the grid at a lower rate. Adding battery storage to your solar system significantly increases your self-consumption and reduces your reliance on grid electricity.

How battery storage works

Your solar panels generate electricity throughout the day. Without a battery, any excess electricity not used immediately is exported to the grid. With a battery, that excess electricity is stored and used when your panels are not generating, typically in the evening and overnight. A well sized battery can cover the majority of your evening and overnight electricity demand.

Battery storage with EV integration

Combining solar panels, battery storage and an EV charger creates a fully integrated home energy system. Your panels charge your battery during the day, your battery charges your car overnight and any remaining excess is exported to the grid under the Smart Export Guarantee. We design and install fully integrated solar, battery and EV systems across the North East.

Smart Export Guarantee

Get paid for the electricity your solar panels generate

The Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) is a government backed scheme that requires energy suppliers with more than 150,000 customers to offer a tariff to small scale renewable generators. In plain English, it means your energy supplier pays you for every unit of electricity your solar panels generate and export back to the grid.

How much can you earn from SEG?

SEG rates vary between energy suppliers and change regularly. As a guide, most SEG tariffs currently pay between 3p and 15p per kWh exported.

The amount you earn depends on how much electricity your panels generate, how much you use yourself and how much is exported.

A well designed system with battery storage maximises self-consumption and reduces exports,

but a system without battery storage will export more and earn more from SEG.

MCS certification and SEG

To be eligible for Smart Export Guarantee payments your solar installation must be carried out by an MCS certified installer.

Every solar installation we carry out is MCS certified, meaning you are eligible to apply for SEG payments from

your energy supplier as soon as your system is commissioned.

Applying for SEG

Once your system is installed and commissioned, you apply directly to your energy supplier for SEG payments.

We provide your MCS certificate and all the documentation your supplier needs as part of the handover pack.

Most suppliers process SEG applications within 4 to 6 weeks of receiving the required documentation.

Commercial solar

Commercial solar panel installation across the North East

Solar panels are not just for homes. Commercial properties across the North East can significantly reduce their energy costs and carbon footprint with a properly designed solar PV system. With commercial energy prices significantly higher than domestic rates, the payback period on a commercial solar installation is often faster than on a domestic system.

Commercial solar PV installation

We design and install solar PV systems for commercial properties across the North East including offices, retail premises, warehouses, industrial units and hospitality venues. Every commercial system is MCS certified and fully eligible for Smart Export Guarantee payments.

Commercial battery storage

Adding battery storage to a commercial solar installation allows businesses to store excess generation and use it during peak tariff periods, significantly reducing grid electricity costs. We design commercial battery storage systems around your business energy profile and usage patterns.

EV charging for commercial properties

Combining commercial solar with EV charging infrastructure allows businesses to charge their fleet vehicles using renewable energy generated on site. We design and install integrated solar and EV charging systems for commercial properties across the North East.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

Are you MCS certified for solar installation?
Yes. We are MCS certified solar installers across Newcastle and the North East. MCS certification is the industry standard for solar panel installation in the UK and is a legal requirement for installations that qualify for the Smart Export Guarantee. It means our installations meet strict quality, safety and performance standards and that every system we install is eligible for SEG payments from your energy supplier. You will receive your MCS certificate as part of your handover documentation on completion of your installation.
How long does a solar panel installation take?
Most domestic solar panel installations across Newcastle and the North East are completed in one to three days on site depending on the size of the system, the complexity of the roof access and whether battery storage is being installed at the same time. A straightforward system on a standard pitched roof with no battery storage can typically be completed in a single day. Larger systems, those with battery storage or those requiring additional electrical work such as consumer unit upgrades will take longer. We will give you a clear timescale as part of your quote before any work is agreed.
How much do solar panels cost in Newcastle?
The cost of a solar panel installation in Newcastle and the North East depends on the size of the system, the number of panels, the inverter specification and whether battery storage is included. As a general guide, a typical domestic solar installation starts from around £5,000 to £8,000 fully installed including MCS certification. Adding battery storage typically adds £2,000 to £4,000 depending on the capacity required. We provide a detailed fixed price quote covering the full system before any work is agreed. Please verify these price ranges with the client before publishing.
What is the Smart Export Guarantee and am I eligible?
The Smart Export Guarantee is a government backed scheme that requires energy suppliers with more than 150,000 customers to pay you for the excess electricity your solar panels generate and export back to the grid. To be eligible your solar installation must be carried out by an MCS certified installer and your system must be under 5MW in capacity. Every installation we carry out is MCS certified meaning you are eligible to apply for SEG payments from your energy supplier as soon as your system is commissioned. SEG rates vary between suppliers so it is worth comparing tariffs before applying.
